The 5th World Women University Presidents Forum Opened

Hosted by China Education Association for International Exchange(CEAIE), Communication University of China and Xiamen University,the 5th World Women University Presidents Forum was held in Xiamen City from the 4th to the 6th in November. Over 100 women university presidents from 35 countries around the world gathered and exchanged ideas and thoughts with the theme of “Inclusive Development of Culture and Education: Missions and Actions of Women University Presidents”. Chen Zhili, the Vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Chairman of All-China Women’s Federation, Lin Wenyi, the vice chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee,Sun Chunlan, the party secretary of Fujian Province, Li Weihong, the vice minister of Ministry of Education, and Zhang Xinsheng, the president of CEAIE attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

 

 

 

Chen Zhili addressed that the inclusive development of culture and education requires universities to achieve indiscrimination and inclusiveness, search for a more delicate balance between elite and mass higher education, introduce the mainstream social gender consciousness to institutional design and further international exchange so as to make higher education more open-ended. She also stressed that culture and education should trickle down to the wider public, particularly the women, to promote female growth. Concepts are to be reinforced such as that people are entitled to education, that education is a significant channel for achieving gender equality and empowering women and that investment in the education of women are of great benefit to human health and the society. The governments all over the world and the international community are urged to take more responsibility in promoting gender equality.

During the three-day forum, the attendees discussed about issues including “Explorations of International Model of Higher Education and Orientation of Modern Universities”, “Development of Female Leadership and Self-design for Women University Presidents“ and “The Life and Actions of Women University Presidents after Retirement”.
